Season 7 Episode 1 : What to expect from your builder with Mark Diedricks of Arklen

Kicking off 2021, a little late but it’s worth the wait. We’ve been wanting to sit down with Mark from Arklen since we lunched and finally we managed to pull the rabbit of that hat. In what is a particularly busy time for the #perthbuilding sector and design industry in general, we knew it was high time we spoke to an expert who spend day in day out in the trenches dealing with it from all angles. We ticked just over 50 minutes on this but trust me when I say, it felt like 15. Easy listening.

Arklen is a prominent Perth custom home builder with a rack of awards under their belt, in nearly every category there is. Combining luxury & sustainability (when Mark isn’t building he’s a passionate surfer & avid lover of the outdoors), Arklen built homes have a reputation for supreme quality built by the nicest guys in the business.

So what can you expect from your builder? Here’s a few ‘takeaway’s’ but no cheat sheets for this one. No. Just listen and take it all in.

- The BOOM, we talk about it.

- Builders who quoted last year - what do they do now with all the margin jumps and increases in cost?

- Should you wait to build? Mark says “……. (he, he, he, he - I said listen!)

- Tradie shortages (or are there hmmmm ?)

- The unmoderated industry - where does that leave the client or the builder? Who is protected?

- On saying NO to the tender process. What even is it?

- Mark makes a case for high volume builders (say what now?)

- Client due diligence - what's that? (it means do some of your own homework).

- Lastly; Mark’s top tips for up and coming builders.

It’s true to say only the tip of the iceberg was touched in this episode and so it’s not off the cards that we won’t do a Part 2.

If you have any questions for Mark or for us here at Design Banter please email hi@spreadingroomers.com.au.
