Season 7 Episode 2 : How to get published with Lisa Quinn-Schofield of Featherhorse

In this week’s episode we talk all things glossies with Lisa Quinn-Schofield of Featherhorse. The world of publishing is one that many Perth designer aspires to; a milestone many hope to achieve throughout their career. You may remember in final episode of 2020, we touched on the world of publishing and PR and questioned whether there was still a place for print publication, particularly given a dedicated Perth design magazine is mostly non-existent. This is the episode for you if you are wanting to hear what Feathers, a 4 + year contributor to those glossies had to offer.

Featherhorse is a Perth design studio run by Lisa Quinn-Schofield. Specialising in Interior Styling & Decorating, Lisa is also an artist in her own right having recently launch her own commissions, prints & paintings. Importantly; after many years in the Editorial publishing space as a Perth Stylist, we wanted to talk candidly about her experiences in the industry, peppered with some hot tips on how you can pitch, manage your shoot and what to do next.

Before you set yourself the marketing mission of getting featured in a design magazine what should you consider? In this episode we touch on:

- Your objective. What do you hope to gain from it.

- What’s involved in a shoot?

- What might it cost you (and we don’t mean financially)

- How to pitch.

- How to manage / build the relationship.

- What do you once you have been featured.

- How to use the collateral post glossy?

There is probably room to go much deeper and as is with everything, the landscape moves and changes quickly. The best advice overall would be to always refer back to your original objectives when planning your future marketing spend and expected ROI.

We’ll be back next week to bring your more Design Banter and another expert in the industry but who I wonder will it be? In the meantime, our podcasts are best served VIP so subscribe to Apple Podcasts and as always you are encouraged to show your support by giving us a review.
