Season 7 Episode 5 : Did you know there was such a thing as Landscape Design and Build?

It’s a funny thing - landscaping. The one area of the home that is more often than not a last minute thought. The one made when the budget is spent or near spent and yet it’s the one space (in a place like Perth in particular) we are more likely to spend the majority of time enjoying. Sure the home is important, but make no mistake, the garden (now more than ever) is an extension of it. We have Landscape Designers, we have Landscapers, we have Horticulturalists, but did you know there is also a Landscape Design and Build option? His name is De Vries Designs.

In today’s episode we talk one and one with Sam De Vries of De Vries Designs. Coincidentally; Sam is doing the design and build of Andrea’s (Siba Interiors) own garden, so it made perfect sense to talk through the process they have undertaken together - given they are both working professionals in our local design community. When it came to hiring the right person for the job it came down to a few key factors. Let’s chat and find out what they were and what you need to know about this profession before you undertake any spend on your own garden.

Let’s get into it. Here are the some of the highlights of Season 7 Episode 5 of Design Banter:

- Why did Sam say no to crazy pave (and will Andrea ever live it down)?

- What are the considerations needed when planning a design and build?

- What are the benefits to hiring a Sam and having that full D&B option?

- Do pools really cost THAT MUCH?

- How did covid affect the planting choices and was it a good thing?

- Birds of paradise - the eternal ‘instagram’ plant. Where should it be planted (I asked this one as I just had to know if the roomers were true).

- Phasing your garden build

and so much more.

As this is the second last episode of what has been an epic season please put some time aside to ACTUALLY LISTEN! Sam is keen to answer any of your questions.

We’ll be back next week to bring your more Design Banter and another expert in the industry but who I wonder will it be? In the meantime, our podcasts are best served VIP so subscribe to Apple Podcasts and as always you are encouraged to show your support by giving us a review.
