Season 7 Episode 3 :The Business of Architectural Design with Studio Atelier.

We land this week with a bit of tale of small business success, and by that I mean, that this Design Banter interview with Kim & Jeff of Studio Atelier not only reaffirms their talents and achievements but very openly, they also discuss their practice. How to scale, when was it the right time to ‘bring someone in’, what would that look like, how would they afford it? All the things many a 3 - 4 year practice is likely considering, these guys have done it. An episode for anyone wanting to get to know these talented designers a little better and for any small business wanting to hear how a fellow business owner took those big leaps forward.

Kim & Jeff are people I have personally known since I started Spreading Roomers. We have worked together on numerous occasions marketing their business Studio Atelier and what clearly started out very much as business relationship is now so much more. It was with absolute pleasure that I got to sit down with these two talents and share with you their journey via a very personal means. I think we all look on the platforms of social media to give us guidance, but this episode goes places a post simply can’t - right to the source!

If you are a small design business of 1 or 2 and you’re considering next step this episode is full of actual steps taken by Studio Atelier when they started to scale their practice. In this episode we touch on:

- How it all began. Their story and how that first project together lay the foundation for what was to come.

- Your objective. What do you want to achieve long term.

- Your roots. Don’t lose sight of where you started.

- How to stay in your own lane.

- How to use your wins to audit your business.

- How to let go.

- How to focus on your strengths and allow others to ‘help’.

- What they love most about working together

- What’s next on their journey.

Their story is not an unusual one but where Studio Atelier have always stood out to me is that they back themselves. They don’t look sideways, instead their lane is exactly where they are best positioned. We’d love your comments below on this episode as it will certainly assist us in creating more of the type of interviews you love moving forward.

We’ll be back next week to bring your more Design Banter and another expert in the industry but who I wonder will it be? In the meantime, our podcasts are best served VIP so subscribe to Apple Podcasts and as always you are encouraged to show your support by giving us a review.
