Perth interior designer, Jill Owens is an astute eye when it comes to the crafting of interior spaces for her clients.
To help those of you with an appreciation for classic contemporary style SOURCE THE STYLE, I asked Jill to round up an edit of three of her favourite spaces from the popular NEDLANDS RESI as featured recently here on Spreading Roomers.

Kitchen / Scullery.
“We cut into the space beneath the stairs to create a very generously sized scullery. The door into the scullery was manufactured by the cabinet maker so that it felt like it was part of the kitchen area. I selected a deep inky blue for the cabinetry in the Island to ground the space and to bring out the gorgeous vein detail in the natural stone benchtop.”

The ILVE OVEN was the first purchase and set the tone for the rest of the build. The cut out for the dog bowls was in the design from the very beginning. It was a talking point for everyone that visited the site and is a much loved spot in the home.
Home Office.
“Cabinetry designed in collaboration with International Cabinets – we had some very specific requirements for this space.
As the home is completely automated (lights / tv / music) we needed a large section of the cabinetry to be deep enough to conceal the data rack and slot panels.
Suspended file registers / printer. We wanted to leave some open space for books ad accessories but as the room is viewed from the entry we wanted it to be as neat as possible at all times.
My client works from home so we wanted this space to be as inviting as possible. Chaise Longue for reading, Fireplace for atmosphere and warmth. While my client loved the deep blue colour for the cabinetry she was nervous about painting the whole room in this colour, so this final decision was made after the cabinetry went it. 100% happy she agreed to go this way.”

DRINKS TROLLEY – COCO REPUBLIC soured on a trip to Sydney. I know you can order online but I prefer to touch and see the quality of a product before I order. My client loved this so much we ordered a second one for the Sitting Room upstairs.

VISITORS CHAIR – INCLASS by MOBILIA – this was purchased 5 years ago when we renovated my clients previous house, it’s a very good lesson in if you buy quality and a piece that is timeless it will work in any scheme.
RUG - CATTELAN ITALIA by ULTIMO – this exact rug is in my clients previous home but has a cut out for the cables to run through to the floor. It’s such a beautiful rug we bought a second one for this space and made another cut out!
LEATHER DESK MAT – CATTELAN ITALIA by ULTIMO – also from the previous reno and works perfectly here.
DESK by HENRY & OLIVER custom made design, handles on the desk ARMAC MARTIN.
FLOORS – supplied and installed by FLOORS BY NATURE, sanded and stained by WALK ON WOOD. They are solid raw European Oak Herringbone, custom stain.
SHUTTERS – on any windows that weren’t replaced in the reno we re-used the shutters.
VASES - GUAXS from ULTIMO, preserved flowers FLOWERS BY JANIE.

Laundry.
“Laundry or Utility Room? I've been living in Australia for 12 years, I feel like my accent has stayed as Irish as ever but every so often I realise how many Aussie terms I've picked up, and sometimes I forget which term is the "right" one, I still occasionally call beside drawers a bedside locker and get some strange looks.”
You can take the irish woman out of Ireland but never Ireland out of the irish woman!
