Ways To Master Your Inner Artisan In Perth And Greater WA.
Slowly boiling away amongst the throes of typical consumerism and a 'now' approach to living, is a beautiful underbelly of the artisan skills of old, and a modern-day heirloom love of object.
WA has steadily fallen in love again with the magic of handmade. It’s no longer enough to consciously purchase a piece that captures those old school feels, but the longing to learn, find focus, slow down and enjoy the process too has undergone a massive resurgence.
From the mastery of slow craft, artistic creativity, sustainable skills and hobbyists turned teachers, I decided to pull together yet another curated Perth guide that celebrates the local learnings of handmade.
In this guide you will find workshops, gin (I found two gin related workshops because it's my 'spirit animal' - hehehe) and kits you can do at home.
There's something really special about all of these offerings and that's because they can so often evoke memories from your past, represent current day lifestyle choices (particularly those that lean into sustainability or purpose) and they can very easily lead to a personal new venture in your future.
The great news is we can all master our inner artisan, and I'm sure amongst this listicle there will be something there you've always wanted to try.
Here’s a Perth design guide to help master your inner artisan.
I recently attended the Open Hands Creative Paper making workshop and it was extraordinary.
I decided to treat myself a few months ago in the hope that restrictions would be lifted and was one of the best afternoons I have spent getting creative in a long while.
As a very busy business woman, I was hunting something completely different than my day to day, and without doubt these are skills I will continue to put to good use.
FOR THE GIN LOVERS.
It’s crazy to think there’s a small section dedicated to my longtime friend GIN, but any excuse to bring into the fold is a good time I say!
TASTING NOTES : You can also find a sneaky lil cocktail recipe of mine here using KLC gin by HHH Spirits, from a local Perth distillery located in Bickley, WA.
DO IT AT HOME.
It’s true that sometimes you are at your most creative in the privacy of your home. Whether that’s needing to wear your lucky socks with a hole in the toe, or avoiding the anxiety of workshop strangers watching you moderately f*ck it up, these gorgeous kits were designed with you in mind. Slow and steady wins the race.
You can start your artisan journey.
Now all that’s left to do is for you to share these fabulous finds with your friends.
By using #spreadingroomers (which I check regularly) I can share your Perth workshops, handmade or creative master classes and artisan skills with others.
And if you know anyone who is keen to learn their own new slow skill you can send them this guide.
