The Planet Positive Small Businesses Killing It With Good Design.

Hi,

My name is Deb and I am an environmental sympathist !

This week on Spreading Roomers IG, I used my stories for good. I am an avid climate change advocate, and in my own business I do all I can to ensure that I am always doing better than I did the week before [ read, I am by no means perfect and still have a long way to go ].

I am not a Scott Morrison fan. Let’s put that out there immediately; but I am not going to push this mandate down your throats either. Instead, and as always, I’m going to use this passion and this platform to do more good - if I can. It’s my way of giving back.

As we grapple with a climate that clearly needs to ‘change’ and a era whereby our choices as consumers has never been more important, I wanted to do all I can to lean into the growing community of local Perth businesses giving us every opportunity to start taking it all seriously but with serious style.

If we all make small changes, even in the consumer cycle, the impact is great.

I think for a long, long time, eco-friendly, sustainable, considered homewares, clothing and products all looked a little ‘tree hugger’ even for the most invested of us. Shallowly perhaps, we let those looks get in the way of a purchase but that’s all changing [ it’s ok to admit that those early waxy wraps were giving off way too many commune vibes for some ].

Now this isn’t going to cover off our lifestyle choices, like switching to green energy, or transitioning to less meat [ that’s for another blog ] - instead, the mission should be simply to switch out to one of these products when the time comes [ like shampoo bars for example ].

There is also one area I haven’t touched on below and that is the circular economy of the Perth vintage and second hand community…and that’s because they have their own guide and blog dedicated just to them. There were so many to choose from, and so if you are an avid lover of second hand furniture, pre-loved homewares and era dominant style that previous edition has you covered.

This curated list is a taste of where this sector is heading.

Innovation is starting to break through into this arena, and what’s more, our local business owners are taking their own mandates really serious - low tox, carbon neutrality, recyled, ethical. They all make a case for planet positivity.

Not only do they feel like they ‘doing something’ positive for the cause, we feel good too because by buying local and supporting their businesses we feel like we did something just as honorable. Positivity in that way is actually contagious. Finally a bug we won’t mind catching !
